Brief Biography (English)

Prof Mellony Graven was appointed as full Professor and the South African Numeracy Chair at Rhodes University in January 2011. Her standing as an academic and researcher are attested to her being awarded one of two competitive Numeracy Chairs; becoming President of the Southern African Association for Research in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education; serving key editorial positions for international books, journals and special journal issues, and several invitations for plenary addresses. She has served on several international committees including the International Program Committee for the International Commission for Mathematics Education ICME (2012-2016) and the Committee of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education PME (2015–2019). She served as co-chair of the IPC for PME-43 in 2019. She has served on several committees at her university including the Executive Senate Committee; the Ethics Committee; and the Faculty of Education Higher Degrees committee (including as Deputy Chair and Chair). Over the past five years, She has published over 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals or books including in leading international journals ESM; ZDM; FLM; MERJ and IJSME. Google scholar indicates over 1500 citations of her work to date, and H index of 21, and an i10-index of 45. Since 2011, She has provided bursaries and supervision to over 20 post-graduate students, including three post-doctoral students. All students are supported to present their work at research conferences and to publish their findings in journals. These students have presented over 50 papers at multiple national, African, and international conferences and have published more than 40 articles in journals, books, and peer-reviewed conference proceedings to date.
