Brief Biography (English)

Dr Vanessa Gowreesunkar is a citizen of the island of Mauritius. She holds a PhD which cuts across three discipline namely tourism management, marketing and communication. This was a fully funded national merit scholarship based on her outstanding achievement as gold medalist for her fist degree in tourism and hospitality management (BSc Honours Tourism and Hospitality Management). She was the former Head of Department for Tourism and Hotel Management at the University of Africa in Nigeria. Afterwards, she joined as Associate Professor at the Anant National University where she took over the portfolio for Cultural tourism studies. Currently, she works at the Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur where she serves as Associate Professor in the Tourism Department.  She is in charge of international collaboration. With over 15 years of experience in teaching, training and research, she has brought her contributions in several international universities and education as well as non-academic institutions. Dr Gowreesunkar is an active researcher with over 95 publications in the field of tourism, management, marketing, communication, entrepreneurship, island tourism, sustainable tourism among others. She has also developed several academic manuals and handbook for tourism and communication scholars. Her publications and research are S Scopus-indexed  and she has been a  main and co-editors for a number of international textbooks. She is a PhD Examiner for several international institutions. Vanessa serves as Vice President at the International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA), and she also assume the role of Social Media Director for ITSA and the Emerald International Journal of Tourism Cities, a journal owned by ITSA. She is highly solicite as keynote speakers  in conferences and her achievements are also recorded on YouTube. From a community-based perspective, Dr Gowreesunkar serves as deputy chair at the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC), Tourism, infrastructure and Energy cluster. She is the national coordinator for the Woman Advancement for Economic and Leadership Empowerment (Nigeria). She is also the co-Founder of the African Network for Policy Research and Advocacy for Sustainability. She has received several international awards for bringing her contributions in the  empowerment of African Woman and her academic contributions.
