Dr Laure Gouba was born in Burkina Faso in West Africa, where she started her education and obtained a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Ouagadougou (UJKZ). She moved to Benin where she obtained a PhD in Mathematical Physics from IMSP, University of Abomey Calavi (UAC) in 2005 under the co-supervision of Prof Jan Govaerts and Prof Mahouton Norbert Hounkonnou. From 2006 to 2008 Dr Gouba worked at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), South-Africa, as Coordinator of Teaching Assistants. From 2008 to 2010 she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Institute for Theoretical Physics (NITheP), Stellenbosch Node, South-Africa. Since October 2010 until now, she has been working at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, as a Scientist. Dr Gouba is a Member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), a Member of the African Scientific Institute (ASI) and a Member of the AIMS-NEI community,the International Chair in Mathematical Physics and Applications (ICMPA).
