Prof Christopher Gordon is based at the University of Ghana’s Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies and is the Country Engagement Lead for The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN). He holds a BSc (Hons) in 1980 and MSc, 1986 from the University of Ghana, and has a PhD from King’s College, University of London (1995), in Human Environmental Science.
With over 100 publications, Prof Gordon has supervised more than 60 Masters and PhD students covering Freshwater Biodiversity, Fisheries, Wetland Ecology, Environmental Science, Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Chemistry, Agricultural Extension as well as Communication Studies. Prof Gordon was a Coordinating Lead Author for Chapter Three (3) of The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) report on Africa, as well as serving as a Reviewer for The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
He has served as Vice-President for both Wetlands International and The International Society of Limnology. Currently, Prof Gordon is Convenor of an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Working Group to revise the Environmental Standards for Sites and Organisations, a Member of The Earth Commission of Future Earth as well as The World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP) of UN Environment. In 2016 he was made a Member, Order of the Volta, for services to the nation in research, education as well as policy development (Climate Change, Water, Buffer Zones, Wetlands, Environment, Oil and Gas Management).
