Professor Francis Gneza is a distinguished professor of surgery, recognised for his outstanding contributions to the field of cardiology. He received his PhD in cardiology from St. George's University in 1990 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Stellenbosch University. With a career spanning over 36 years, Dr Gneza has established himself as one of the most distinguished cardiac surgeons of his generation. Throughout his career, he has held academic positions at the University of the West Indies and the University of Lusaka (UNILUS), where he has trained and mentored numerous healthcare professionals. Dr Francis Gneza has played a leading role in several research projects investigating the causes of cardiovascular disease in people under 30 years of age in sub-Saharan Africa. His work has contributed significantly to the understanding and prevention of premature heart disease in the region.
