Dr Githumbi's research specialization is palaeoecology focusing on the Holocene Period and shea interested in vegetation change (pollen-vegetation relationships), climate research, land cover. She is currently a researcher at Lund University (Sweden), working in MERGE (a Strategic Research Area of the Swedish government). As part of Research Area 2, whose overall aim is to use empirical proxy data of past climate and land cover to evaluate and develop Earth system models and regional, coupled vegetation-climate models. The research also addresses the identification of underestimated or missing processes in Earth System Models. My participation involves the use of land cover reconstruction models (LRA models LOVE and REVEALS) for the Holocene period.
