Brief Biography (English)

Evelyn Chiyevo Garwe is the Pro Vice-Chancellor: Internationalisation, Business Development, Research and Networking with the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU). She previously worked as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) for 13,5 years, five years of which she was Acting CEO. Whilst at ZIMCHE she served as the Secretary for the Research and Intellectual Outputs, Science, Engineering and Technology (RIOSET) Expo National Organising Committee. Prior to that, she was Dean of Agricultural Sciences at the Chinhoyi University of Technology, Zimbabwe and the Women’s University in Africa (WUA), Zimbabwe. Her portfolio of qualifications traverses Scientific and Management disciplines (obtained with distinction from prime universities in Zimbabwe, UK, and South Africa.  She is a keen researcher and higher education practitioner with expertise and experience in quality assurance, strategic and project management. She recently completed a three-year project on “Internationalisation of Higher Education in Zimbabwe”, a project that culminated in her co-editing the first-ever comprehensive book on “Internationalisation of higher education in the global South.” She researches transformation and quality issues in all aspects of higher education, inclusive of leadership and governance, research, internationalisation, gender, and financing. She is also interested in the ways that decolonised, inclusive education shapes the narratives regarding various stakeholders for example students, academics, vulnerable societies. She is a fellow of the Pan African Institute of Development, a member of the Southern African Society for Quality Practitioners (SASQ), and the Environmental Professionals Council of Zimbabwe. She served as Chairperson of the Agricultural Research Council of Zimbabwe, WUA Council, and WUA Farm Board as well as as a Board Member for the Great Zimbabwe University. Prof Garwe is a Champion for food security in Africa under the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), Food Biosafety Expert, an Ambassador for quality assurance under the HAAQA project, and an Impact Leader under the UK Research Impact Leadership programme.
