Dr. Paterne Gahungu holds a PhD in mathematics in the area of Partial differential equations with applications in Biology, especially in the modeling transmission dynamics of infectious diseases.
He is passionate about promoting STEM education. He has been a Next Einstein Ambassador for Burundi between 2017-2017. During his ambassadorship, he organized the first Afra Science Week in Burundi in 2018. He is also part of the Panafrican Robotic Competition 2020 organizing committee. He is among young Burundians that established the Burundi Council of Young Scientists in 2016.
Currently, Dr. Paterne is a visiting lecturer at the University of Burundi where he is teaching mathematics. Since 2013, Paterne has been involved in outreach activities in collaboration with the Centre de Recherche en Didactiques et de Diffusion des Sciences au Burundi(CRDS).
