Brief Biography (English)

Charles Manga Fombad is a Professor of Law and Heads the African Comparative Constitutional Law Unit at the Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa (ICLA), Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria.

He is the Author/Editor of 12 books and has Published more than 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals and more than 30 book chapters. Professor Fombad has for three successive years, Received the Special Commendation Award (as Runner Up to the University Researcher of the Year) from the University of Botswana Research Awards Committee for research excellence in 2004, 2005 and again in 2007.

Prof Fombad is a Rated Researcher of the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) and a Member of the Academy of Science of South Africa. Since 2013, he has been a Fellow of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS). Professor Fombad is on the Editorial Board of several distinguished national and international journals. He is also a Member of several professional associations such as the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL), of which he is one of the Vice Presidents.

Prof Fombad's research interests are in comparative African constitutional law, media law, the African Union, and legal history, especially issues of legal harmonization.
