Brief Biography (English)

Dr. Usisipho Feleni is a Senior Lecturer at the Nanotechnology and Sustainability Research Unit (NanoWS) in the School of Science, University of South Africa (UNISA). She holds an MSc Nanoscience degree with specialisation in nano-electrochemistry, as well as a PhD Chemistry degree with specialisation in electrochemical phenotype-based nano biosensors for monitoring drug metabolism and drug toxicity. Her Ph.D. research work won her the prestigious L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Sub-Saharan Africa Doctoral Fellowship Award in 2016, as well as the South African Women in Science TATA Doctoral Fellowship Award in 2016. She has published more than 20 papers in the area of chalcogenide-based quantum dots as tuneable electroactive platforms for the fabrication of biosensors for determining the variabilities in drug metabolism. Additionally, she has supervised 7 MSc students and mentored 1 Ph.D. student in the area of quantum dots electrochemistry and their applications in sensing and signaling of disease biomarkers and drug metabolism. She is an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (AMRSC), a Full Member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), and the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE). She is a Visiting Lecturer in the MSc Nanoscience degree programme at UWC.
