Brief Biography (English)

Arthur George Every is an Emeritus Professor at the School of Physics at the University of the Witwatersrand. He has held Visiting Positions at the University of Oxford, UK, Cornell University, USA, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, and a number of other overseas universities. Prof Every Publishes extensively in the fields of phonon physics, elastodynamics and ultrasonics. He is Co-Author, with A.K. McCurdy of Second and Higher Order Elastic Constants of Crystals, Landolt Börnstein" Vol. 29a (Springer,1992) and Co-Editor with W. Sachse, of Vol. I of Handbook of the Elastic Properties of Solids, Liquids, and Gases (Academic Press, 2001). Prof Every is a former Editor in Chief of the international journal Ultrasonics and has been on the organizing and advisory committees of numerous international conferences. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of South Africa, and a Member of the Academy of Science of South Africa. Most of his research falls within the broad area of acoustic waves and thermal phonon transport in solids. Topics he has worked on over the years include laser ultrasound, surface Brillouin scattering, elastodynamic Green’s functions, acoustic microscopy and ballistic phonon transport.
