Brief Biography (English)

Prof Ibisime Etela holds a doctorate degree in Animal Science majoring in ruminant nutrition and production with a special interest in promoting organic livestock production, nutrition-sensitive agricultural research, nutritional evaluation of locally available feed resources, their utilization by ruminant livestock, and feed quality prediction using in-sacco degradability studies, in-vitro gas production technique and near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy under resource-poor crop/livestock farming systems. His recent researches focused on promoting organic goat farming in humid environments, urban agriculture, climate change resilience by resource-poor crop-livestock farmers, environmental impacts of an abattoir and plastic wastes on aquatic ecosystems, utilization of spent mushroom substrates and palm kernel cake by goats, groundnut and cowpea crop residues by sheep, and sweet potato crop residues by calves/lactating cows. The crop residues were obtained from improved crop varieties that are very important food/feed crops in Nigeria and other parts of sub-Saharan Africa. Generally, Prof Etela’s works cut across crop residues utilization, livestock farming systems, and livestock ecological agriculture.
