Dr. Etale leads a multidisciplinary research group at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg that focuses on following, the development of nanomaterials for water treatment, and understanding public perceptions of nano-enabled water treatment technology and alternative waters e.g. recycled water. Her work is widely recognised as she has to date, received more than R 10 million in research funding through grants from the Royal Society, the International Science Council, the Volkswagen Foundation, and the Swiss Excellence Fellowship, among others. She is a FLAIR fellow and an alumnus of the Swiss Excellence Research fellowship. Her research interests include Membranes and nanocomposites for mine drainage treatment. She also focuses on Biological and low-cost nanomaterials water treatment, Nanotechnology risk perception and technology acceptance, and Water reuse perceptions.
