Olorunfemi Abraham Eseyin is a Professor of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry with Research interests in bioprospecting for novel anti-diabetic and anti-malaria drugs; food-drug interactions and natural products/medicinal plants.
He has been Researching for some time on the antimalarial and antidiabetic activities of Telfairia occidentalis Hook (fluted pumpkin) and is currently Working on the isolation and identification of active components of the plant.
Prof Eseyin obtained his BSc degree in Biochemistry in 1988 (and was the Best Graduating Student), his MSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry (1994), and his PhD in Biochemistry (2009).
He was the Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Natural Medicine (2017-2019) and acting Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry (2008-2012), both at the University of Uyo in Nigeria.
Prof Eseyin is a Grantee of both IFS individual and collaborative Research Grants. He worked in the Renal and Cardiovascular Research Lab, Penang, Malaysia as a TWAS-USM Postdoctoral Fellow. Prof Eseyin is the Head of Drug Discovery and Research Group of the University of Uyo; Author of over 70 Scientific Publications in peer-reviewed Journals and a Member of some international learned societies; pioneer Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Journal of Pharmaceutical and Applied Science Research (the Official Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Uyo, Nigeria).
