Angela Eni is a plant virologist and an Associate Professor at the Department of Biological Sciences, Covenant University Nigeria. Prior to joining Covenant University in 2009, Angela spent over 10 years at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) Ibadan, Nigeria, contributing to poverty alleviation efforts targeted at resource-poor, smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. She worked on characterization and development of diagnostics for viruses infecting important tropical food crops and was the interim Head of the Virology and Molecular Diagnostics Unit of IITA from March 2005 and July 2007.
Angela is currently the Country Director (North Central and southwest Nigeria) for the West African Virus Epidemiology (WAVE) Project, a project that is co-funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USA, and Department for International Development (DFID), UK. WAVE project is a coordinated regional program aimed at improving the productivity of root and tuber crops across 10 West and Central African countries through the management of viral diseases of key African root and tuber crops, especially cassava.
