Brief Biography (English)

Dr Catherine Egbe is a Research Psychologist and Health Promotion Specialist with research interest in tobacco control policy, epidemiology of tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, tobacco industry documents and industry monitoring, smoking cessation, and risk influences for youth smoking. She is an alumna of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education, University of California San Francisco, United States. She is a member of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) and won the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) Global Health Network Spotlight award (Fall 2016). She also served as Section Head (Tobacco Background curriculum) for the Smoking Cessation Research Certificate Program Package of SRNT University. She currently works as a specialist scientist in the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Research Unit, South African Medical Research Council where she leads the tobacco control research in her organisation. She is the principal investigator of the first Global Adult Tobacco Survey in South Africa and a National Research Foundation (NRF) C3 rated researcher.
