Prof Adrienne Lesley Edkins received her BSc, BSc (Honours) and MSc degrees in Biochemistry from Rhodes University (South Africa). She received her PhD from the University of Glasgow (UK) under the supervision of Bill Cushley on the Wellcome Trust Four Year Programme in Molecular Functions in Disease. Prof Edkins is currently an Associate Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at Rhodes University, Director of the Biomedical Biotechnology Research Unit (BioBRU), and holds a Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) South African Research Chair (SARChI) in Molecular and Cellular Biology of the Eukaryotic Stress Response. Her Research is focussed on understanding the fundamental mechanisms of protein folding and degradation in normal and diseased conditions with an emphasis on the Hsp70-Hsp90 chaperone complex.
