Brief Biography (English)

Prof Liesel Ebersöhn is the Director of the Centre for the Study of Resilience, University of Pretoria, and Full Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, Faculty of Education.

She combines emancipatory- and intervention research to investigate indigenous pathways to resilience, as a human-ecological adaptive response to chronic and cumulative adversity characteristic of an emerging economy country in transformation.

Prof Ebersöhn has Supervised 60 postgraduate studies, Published 57 peer-reviewed articles, five books and Read keynote papers world-wide.

She was appointed as Associate Professor and Research Fellow respectively at Yale University’s Department of Psychology and Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in AIDS in the USA. Prof Ebersöhn is the Secretary-General of the World Education Research Association. She is also the Editor of the South African Journal of Education.
