Brief Biography (English)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

He has 27 years teaching-learning experience in Physiology and 17 years in Toxicology and Occupational Hygiene. To date he has supervised 41 Master’s degree students (2 in Physiology, 39 in Occupational Hygiene) and 5 PhD students (Occupational Hygiene) that completed their degrees. He is currently promoter of 6 PhD students and the Supervisor of 4 Master’s students.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

His research focus and expertise is on exposure to chemical and physical stressors in the workplace. This includes assessing the potential risk of exposure, assessing actual levels of exposure and controlling the level of exposure. Another research interest is regulatory toxicology, in particular occupational exposure limits. In total he has 70 articles published in accredited and national accredited journals and 4 chapters in books. In total he gave 90 presentations (author and/or co-author) at international and national conferences. He presented four workshops and two seminars at conferences. He is an editorial board member of the Occupational Health Southern Africa journal.

RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS (excerpt)

He holds a South African National Research Foundation’s C2 rating (2020-2025), recognising him as an established researcher with some international recognition. Before this he held a Y2 (2014-2019) rating as an emerging researcher.
