Dr Victorien Dougnon was born on 23rd March 1988 at Abomey-Calavi in Benin. He is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Microbiology at the Polytechnic School of Abomey-Calavi, part of the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin.
His Research interests are related to molecular microbiology, hygiene, and public health. He is involved in antimicrobial resistance research in Africa, applications of microbiological techniques to the resolution of development problems, and exploration of Benin’s flora for the treatment of infectious and non-communicable diseases.
Dr Dougnon is a Resistance Fighter. Science diplomacy is also a topic that is really close to his heart, especially as a West African Scientist. He has Established several strong scientific networks throughout the world, in order to make his country a better place to live in with a reduced burden of infectious diseases.
Dr Dougnon is a Founding Member of the Research Unit in Applied Microbiology and Pharmacology of natural substances, a part of the Research Laboratory in Applied Biology, Polytechnic School of Abomey-Calavi, University of Abomey-Calavi. He is also the Founding President of the Benin Young Academy of Science and the American Society for Microbiology Young Ambassador to Benin (2016-2019).
In 2020, Dr Dougnon was elected as the American Society for Microbiology Country Ambassador to Benin. He has been the World Academy of Sciences Young Affiliate since 2016. In 2020, he was promoted to a Global Young Academy Member.
