Dr Mpilo Dlamini is a senior lecturer and research at the North-West University. His research focus is on materials science, specifically materials for energy. He is currently researching the use of nanoparticles to improve the performance of organic photovoltaics. Dr Dlamini synthesize metallic nanoparticles using simple, cheap, environmentally friend and solution processing methods to keep the fabrication costs at minimum. He also synthesize nanoparticles from plants, which a very environmentally friendly method. The nanoparticles are then embedded within organic solar cells in optimized concentrations. Several peer-reviewed journal articles have been published in international journals. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
