Brief Biography (English) Professor Zodwa Dlamini is the Founding Director of the Pan African Cancer Research Institute (PACRI) and a Professor of Molecular Oncology at the University of Pretoria (UP) in South Africa. She is the Scientific Director of the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) Precision Oncology Research Unit (PORU). She is the DSI/NRF SARChI Chair in Precision Oncology and Cancer Prevention (POCP). She is a distinguished member of the Council for Scientific Advisers (CSA) of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), an international scientific body composed of scientists of the highest profile and international standing in Trieste, Italy. She is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), for significant achievement in the pursuit, advancement or application of science. Prof Dlamini is an overseas Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), an elite group of physicians or scientists elected to the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) following nomination and committee review, comparable to members of the National Academy of Medicine in the United States.
She is the Chairperson of the Africa Health Research Organisation Scientific (AHRO) Advisory Board in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Prof Dlamini is the recipient of the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) Silver Award, as an outstanding South African Scientist who has contributed to raising the profile of Science in South Africa. She was appointed by the Minister of Health as the Vice Chairperson of the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) Board for two terms. She serves on STIAS (Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study) Board of Directors, a leading, independent Institute for Advanced Study, the first of its kind in Africa based in Cape Town. She is the Academy of Science of South Africa member of the Science, Innovation, Engineering and Mathematics Education Standing Committee. She was appointed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Training to serve on the Department of Higher Education and Training’s Research Outputs Main Evaluation Panel. She was appointed to represent the National Department of Health in the Department of Science and Innovation Scientific Advisory Board on Preclinical Drug Development Platform.
