Brief Biography (English)

Prof Rhena Delport is a Medical Scientist and Educator and has completed a PhD in Medicine (Chemical Pathology), and a Masters’ degree in Physiology and in Education.

She is an established Researcher (NRF rating: C2), evidenced by 86 Papers in Peer-Reviewed Journals; 124 Conference Papers at national and international conferences and a Scopus 2019: h-index=23, Citations 3000 (Scopus, 2019 – orcid.org/0000-0002-6274-0923).

Prof Delport has Published in high impact Journals, such as BMJ (IF=20.7) – a meta-analysis that she contributed to, JCI (IF=12.784), Clinical Chemistry (IF=8.008), the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (IF=6.926), Stroke (IF=6.032), Human Genetics (IF=4.637), Metabolism (IF=5.777), European Journal of Human Genetics (IF=4.287), Atherosclerosis (IF=4.239), Forensic Science International: Genet (IF=3.911) and EuroIntervention (IF=5.165).

Prof Delport has Participated in self-initiated and other projects in the field of biochemistry, clinical pathology, environmental toxicology, genetics, education and cardiovascular disease (CVD), the latter being her main focus over time. She currently serves as National Project Manager for the global Stent-Save a Life Initiative, and is a Member of a working group that aims to develop a blueprint for the management of heart attacks that is globally applicable.

Prof Delport has received Recognition for Teaching Excellence by the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2016. She currently Leads a national educational initiative for health workers to improve patient outcome following myocardial infarction through the development of systems of care and is she part of an international working group that advises on the assessment of medical professionalism.
