Dr Francois Deacon's area of expertise is Habitat Ecology at the Faculty/Department: Natural and Agricultural Sciences, at the Department of Animal, Wildlife and Grassland Sciences at the University of the Free State in South Africa. He considers himself a wildlife habitat expert, among other things, but his research is focused on giraffe and rhino in their natural habitat - using GIS and spatial ecology tools for investigation. This research requires teamwork with long-lasting and sustainable solutions. Dr Deacon says: “If we can save the habitat wildlife need, then the animals will be just fine”. He has many projects with collaborations from institutions worldwide, but his primary projects would be to understand the ecological and biological factors that regulate giraffe and rhino in their natural habitat. For this there is a multi-specialist research team of nearly 20 scientists from 10 different countries, helping to address the research questions and objectives and are open for any conservation efforts to save the last remaining habitat for wildlife such as giraffe and rhino.
