Prof Cheryl de la Rey has served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, since February 2019. Prior to this, she was Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria, in South Africa, for nine years.
In total Prof De la Rey has eighteen years’ experience as an Executive in higher education in South Africa, having served as Executive Director at South Africa’s National Research Foundation, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cape Town and Chief Executive of South Africa’s Council on Higher Education; the higher education quality assurance and accreditation agency and provider of policy advice to the national Minister.
Prof De la Rey has been a Member of several national and international organizations and she continues to Publish in her discipline, Psychology.
