Brief Biography (English)

Dr Wentzel Coetzer is a registered Professional Natural Scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat.) with a Doctorate degree (DTech) in Nature Conservation from the Nelson Mandela University.  He received an international award in 2016 from the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) for his research contribution to the wildlife conservation sector.  He worked as a lecturer at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) from 2011 to 2015, during which he lectured 7 subjects relating to the discipline of Game Management.  During this time he was also involved in a number of broader wildlife management operations in the Eastern Cape.  He was previously also the Reserve Manager of a 12 000 ha Private Game Reserve in Namibia (between 2006 – 2008) and of a 16 500 ha Private Game Ranch in Botswana (in 2015).  Since November 2015, Wentzel has been working for Conservation Outcomes as the Biodiversity Stewardship Facilitator for the Greater Kromme Stewardship initiative, which is a conservation initiative in the greater-Kouga region of the Eastern Cape that is mainly focused on securing areas with important biodiversity by the establishment of new Protected Areas through the Biodiversity Stewardship mechanism, as well as supporting the conservation management of Protected Areas.
