Brief Biography (English)

Thomas Eugene Cloete is Vice–rector in Research, Innovation and Postgraduate studies at Stellenbosch University (SU). He is the former Dean of the Faculty of Science at SU and Head of Microbiology and Plant Pathology in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Pretoria (UP). He is the Founding Director of the Stellenbosch University Water Institute (SUWI). He has received several awards, including the Havenga Price for Biology of the South African Academy for Science and Art, the Gold Medal of ASSAf, the Rector's Award for Research Excellence at SU, and the Chancellor’s Medal for Research at UP. He is member of the Academy of Science for South Africa (ASSAf), a fellow of the International Water Association (IWA) and serves on the Advisory board of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS). He has promoted more than 100 MSc and PhD students, authored five books, holds 10 patents and has more than 158 scientific publications to his credit.
