Dr Nafiisah Chotun is a Public Health Professional working in the Division of Laboratory Systems and Networks of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention at the African Union headquarters in Ethiopia.
She holds a PhD in Medical Virology from the Stellenbosch University, South Africa and has over 10 years of experience in African public health issues, particularly in the areas of viral hepatitis, cancer, and epidemiology.
Dr Chotun also has demonstrated project and time management skills having Overseen 6 public health projects over 7 years, including 3 simultaneously ongoing ones, leading to the Publication of 3 First-Author publications, a master’s thesis, and a doctoral dissertation.
She also thrives in interdisciplinary, multicultural, and multinational teams, having lived in 5 countries, including 3 African countries, and worked closely with African Union Member State embassies and in-country representatives and partners, such as the Institut National pour la Recherche Biomédicale in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Dr Chotun is an experienced Science Communicator, having worked as a Scientific Editor and Reviewer for the past 5 years and more recently as a Section Editor for the Journal of Public Health in Africa.
