Dr. Suleiman Chembea is currently the Chair, Department of Arts, Languages and Communication Studies (AL&CS) in the School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS), Bomet University College, Kenya. He holds a PhD in Islamic studies from the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS), University of Bayreuth, Germany; an M.A. in Religion and Bachelor of Education (Arts) both from Mi University, Kenya. His research interests lay in the interface between Muslim charity and social welfare practices, Muslim-non-Muslim relations, Religion and migration, and violent extremism. Dr. Chembea held the position of Visiting Research Fellow at the African Studies Center (ASC), University of Leiden, the Netherlands (2019); the Early Career Researcher of Islam in Africa mentorship program of the Institute of Islamic Thought in Africa (ISITA), Northwestern University, Illinois, Chicago USA (2019), as well as the Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies, University of Bayreuth, Germany (Fellows 2023/24 (uni-bayreuth.de).
