Brief Biography (English)

Dr Habibat Faith Chahul is an Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, previously known as the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi in Nigeria. She holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Jos, a master’s in physical chemistry from the University of Ibadan, and a doctoral degree in physical chemistry from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. Dr Chahul is a recipient of the Nigerian Government Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for PhD training at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (2010-2014), the Cambridge-Africa Alborada Research Fund (2021), the Royal Society of Chemistry Research Fund (2022), and an African Oxford Visiting Fellow at the Department of Chemistry, University of Oxford (2023). She was a visiting researcher on sustainable electrolyte materials for redox flow batteries at the Grey Group, University of Cambridge (2021).

Dr Chahul is the pioneer coordinator of the Women in Chemistry (WIC) Benue chapter. She served in this capacity from 2015 to 2022. She is a member of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Organization for Women in Science in a Developing World (OWSD) and Graduate Women International (GWI). Dr Chahul’s interests are in the fields of materials electrochemistry for electrochemical energy storage devices, sensors, and corrosion inhibitors. She employs physical chemistry and computational principles to investigate safe and sustainable materials for applications in batteries, energy materials, sensors, and corrosion inhibitors. She served as Head of the Department in her institution from 2020–2022. Dr Chahul is committed to mentoring youth, younger women and men in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). She is the grand matron of the National Association of Agatu Students (NAAS). She enjoys reading, surfing the internet, gardening, and dancing.
