Prof Geoffrey Boulton is Regius Professor of Geology Emeritus at Edinburgh University, (UK). He is also a Member of the Governing Board of the International Science Council, the Advisory Council of the African Open Science Platform, the Chair of the Academic Advisory Council at the University of Heidelberg, (Germany), and a Member of the Strategic Council of the University of Geneva, (Switzerland).
His career: British Geological Survey 1963-65; Research Fellow, Birmingham 1965-68; Lecturer-Reader, East Anglia, 1968-1980; Professor, Amsterdam University, 1980-86; Edinburgh University: Head of Geology Department 1986-1992; Dean and Provost of Science 1992-1998; Vice Principal 1998-2007.
