Brief Biography (English)

By education, inclination and experience, Prof Thomas George Bornman is a Specialist in the ecology of coastal and offshore marine plants and protists (NRF C3 Rating).

He has more than 16 years’ Research Project Management Experience Conducting his own Research, Coordinating the African Coelacanth Ecosystem Programme, Acting as Cruise Coordinator of the GEF UNDP Agulhas and Somali Currents Large Marine Ecosystem project, Managing the Elwandle Coastal Node of the SAEON and most recently Developing and Managing the Shallow Marine and Coastal Research Infrastructure.

Prof Bornman has fostered excellent relations with a range of marine researchers, students and institutions in South Africa, regionally (South Western Indian Ocean) and internationally (ACE, IPBES, IMOS, Weddell Sea).

He has developed an enthusiastic and professional approach toward communicating information and a proven ability to Lead, Motivate, Coordinate and Administer students, scientists, research projects and large marine research infrastructure.
