Professor Rajendra Bhimma is Associate Professor of Paediatrics, University of KwaZulu-Natal, and Specialist Paediatric Nephrologist at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in Mayville, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He obtained his MBChB degree in 1985, completed his Fellowship in Paediatrics in 1992 and Doctorate in Medicine in 2003. He is also a Certified Paediatric Nephrologist registered with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa and also has a Fellowship from the International Society of Nephrology. He also obtained a Diploma in Child Health (1998) from the College of Medicine of SA, and a Masters in Medicine degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (1995).
Prof Bhimma has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and is a member of several national and international nephrology societies. He is also an executive member of the Biomedical Research Ethics Committee of the University of KwaZulu-Natal an is Deputy Chair of the Biomedical Research Ethics Committee of the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is co-editor of four peer-reviewed journals. His main research interest is in glomerular diseases in children, particularly nephrotic syndrome. He also serves as a reviewer for several local and international journals in paediatrics and nephrology.
