I have taught linguistics for close to two decades and across an array of sub-disciplines; from the formal (e.g. generative phonology) to the applied (e.g. text linguistics). My research publications reflect this spread of expertise, but recently, with the publication of my PhD on the vowels of South African English, my interests have become progressively more focused on the phonetic, phonological and socio-historical aspects of South African English. I do, however, have plans to extend this focus gradually to include non-linguistic literary aspects (particularly with respect to South African English literature) as well as other South African languages (Afrikaans and Tswana in particular). My work has been presented at various local and international conferences and I have had a hand in supervising and examining a range of linguistic topics over the years.
