Brief Biography (English)

Prof Jacek Banasiak is SARChI Chair in Mathematical Models and Methods in Biosciences and Bioengineering at the University of Pretoria.

Until 2015, he was a Senior Professor in the School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Research Professor there since 2011. In 2013 he became a Fellow of the University. Prof Banasiak was the Vice-President of the South African Mathematical Society from 2001-2005. He has been the Editor-in-Chief of Afrika Matematika, the journal of the African Mathematical Union, since 2010.

In 2012 Prof Banasiak received the South African Mathematical Society Award for Research Distinction and, in 2014, the Cross of Merit (Silver) of the Republic of Poland for scientific achievements.
