Professor Babatunde Bakare has over ten years’ experience in the South African higher education sector. He holds a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria, a Masters degree in Environmental Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering both from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban South Africa. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Mangosuthu University of Technology, Durban, South Africa.
Prof Bakare’s research activities are aligned with the National Priority focus of South Africa as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and have significant societal and environmental impacts, both nationally and internationally. His research inclinations are within the broad area of (but not limited to) water and wastewater treatment processes, municipal and industrial solid waste management, Faecal sludge management from onsite sanitation systems and renewable energy (waste to energy). Nearly all of his research is multidisciplinary in nature, which is critical in attracting funding from grant agencies and establishing strong collaborations. He has a successful record of publications in refereed academic journals (21), peer-reviewed conference proceedings (25) and book/chapters in the book/research reports (2).
Prof Bakare is recognised as an expert in South Africa by the Water Research Commission and the National Research Foundation (NRF) in his area of research specialization. Prof Bakare is a National Research Foundation (NRF) rated researcher in recognition of my research productivity and an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology. He has supervised four (4) Masters and 2 PhD students to degree completion. He currently has cohort of 13 (5 PhD and 8 Masters) students under is supervision.
