Dr Bubacarr Bah is currently the German Research Chair of Mathematics of Data Science, which is a senior researcher position at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in South Africa, with an adjunct affiliation to the Division of Applied Mathematics at Stellenbosch University. Prior to this, he held post-doctoral positions at the University of Texas in Austin, USA, and at EPFL, Switzerland. He has a PhD in Applied and Computational Mathematics from the University of Edinburgh, UK, an MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing from the University of Oxford, and a BSc in Mathematics and Physics from the University of The Gambia. His research interest is in the mathematical foundations, computational aspects (software development) and applications of data science. The data science applications he works on include health, agriculture, energy, and communications. He has a background in compressed sensing and random matrix theory.
