Dr Andrew Baguma is a Microbiologist and Laboratory Medicine specialist with a high level of expertise in setting up Biomedical laboratory systems for healthcare settings and research. He was born in Kamwezi, Rukiga, South Western Uganda, in 1977. He received the Bachelor degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology (BLT) from Makerere University, Uganda, in 2007, Masters of Science (MSc.) degree in Medical Microbiology from Kampala International University(KIU), Uganda, in 2012, and PhD. D. degree in Microbiology from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Mbarara, Uganda, in 2019. In December, 2019, he joined Kabale University, School of Medicine as a Lecturer (Microbiology and Immunology). Previously, He worked as a Consultant Microbiologist at National Public Health Laboratory in Juba, South Sudan Under Africa Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) from 2017 to 2019; As a Laboratory Systems advisor (Microbiologist) at Infectious Diseases Institute, Makerere University from 2015 to 2017; As Regional Malaria Coordinator, under Regional Performance and Monitoring Team(RPMT), Ministry of Health, Uganda from 2013 to 2014; and as a senior Laboratory Technologist at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, Ministry of Health, Uganda from 2008 to 2013. His current research interests include; Laboratory medicine, Bacterial genome, and informatics, Microbial pathogenic mechanism, antimicrobial resistance, and Infection prevention and control(IPC). In the event of COVID – 19 outbreaks, he was contracted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in May 2020, to build capacity and offer High-level technical support to Public health laboratory in Juba, South Sudan.
