Dr Atangwho obtained a Doctorate degree in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Calabar, Nigeria, in 2009. Thereafter, he completed a two-year TWAS-USM post-doctoral research fellowship and training at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia. Dr. Atangwho is currently an Associate Professor of Medical and Pharmacological Biochemistry at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Calabar; an erudite scholar and a renowned research supervisor, who has mentored and graduated several Masters and Doctoral Degree students. He has contributed numerous scholarly articles to peer-reviewed journals in Q1, 2 & 3. A notable peer-reviewer to many journals published by reputable publishers including Thieme Medical Publishers, Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis, Elsevier Science Ltd, Hindawi Publishing Corporation, SAGE and Academic Publishers. Also, he was winner of the 2013 AU-TWAS (African Union - Academy of Science for the Developing World) Young Scientist National Award (Earth and Life Sciences). His current research interest is on “the pharmaco-nutritional roles and translational studies of lesser-known edible African nuts in the prevention and management of Cardio-metabolic diseases”. Given that the intervention profiles and the mechanisms of the botanicals are established, the botanicals should offer exciting opportunities for development into novel therapeutics with comparative African-indigenous advantage.
