Brief Biography (English)

Adeyemi Aremu is an Associate Professor at the Indigenous Knowledge Systems Centre, North-West University, South Africa. He holds a BSc (Hons in Botany, 2006) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Nigeria while his MSc (Ethnobotany cum laude, 2010) and PhD (Botany, 2013) degrees were obtained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Prof Aremu's Research focuses on the documentation, bioactivity testing, chemical characterization and safety evaluation as well as the conservation of African floras especially those with medicinal, horticultural and nutritional potential.

His major goal is to drive impactful research that will be relevant to policy-makers and stakeholders as well as the wider community at large. Prof Aremu is recognized as a young promising Researcher (National Research Foundation, NRF Y-rated) and has Authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles since 2010. He is also actively involved in post-graduate Training with more than 10 MSc and PhD graduates.

Prof Aremu is currently Associate Editor of three international journals and frequently serves as a Reviewer for several journals and funding organizations. He is a recipient of different awards and recognition such as the Claude Leon Fellowship (2013), a Fellow of the Africa Science Leadership Programme (ASLP) (2018), an Exco Member, South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS) (2019) and an Affiliate of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) (2020-2024).

Prof Aremu is a Registered Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) and Member of professional bodies such as the International Society for Ethnopharmacology (ISE) and South African Association of Botanists (SAAB).
