Dr Sunday Okakwu Ape is a Lecturer at the Department of English and Literary Studies, Federal University, Lokoja in the Kogi State of Nigeria. Until he joined Federal University in 2019, he was a Lecturer and Examination Officer at the Department of English, Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil in the Kano State of Nigeria. Since his graduation from the University of Jos in 1990, Dr Ape has taught English language and literature in schools, colleges, and universities with a special interest in phonetics and phonology of English.
Dr Ape has published journal articles in many peer-reviewed and institution-based journals both locally and internationally. He has contributed book chapters in seriously edited books, including Basic English Grammar for Tertiary Institutions, which is used as a text for the teaching of "The Use of English" in Nigeria Police Academy since 2014. He was a member of the editorial committee that produced the revised edition of the same book in 2019, to which he contributed two chapters; "Register and Style - Introduction" and "Review of English Sounds Pattern". His latest book chapter contribution is "Analysis of Second Language Speech Perception and Production by the Idoma Speakers of English", which is soon expected in Georgio Georgos' Second/Foreign Language Speech Perception and Production by Speakers with Underrepresented Native Languages.
Dr Ape teaches phonetics and phonology of English at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has supervised many academic project works since he started teaching in tertiary institutions since 2009.
