Prof. Okon Ansa is a Plant Virologist based at the University of Uyo, Nigeria. He has experience working in the northern arid regions in Nigeria, in Zaria, and other locations in the North of Nigeria. He also has experience working in the rain forest areas of Nigeria. He was involved in the USAID CRSP program on Groundnut Rosette Virus Disease. He has also worked on Okra Mosaic Virus Disease and virus diseases of soybean and virus diseases of cowpeas. He has also identified the fungus genus Colletotrichum as the causal agent of a number of diseases with necrotic symptoms in Uyo, in South-eastern Nigeria. He is also collaborating with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan, Nigeria to identify and document yam viruses in Akwa Ibom State, in South-Eastern Nigeria.
