Dr Stephenie Alaribe is a Bio and Pharmaceutical Chemist in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos, Nigeria. She obtained her first degree in Biochemistry at the College of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, MSc and PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos. Her research interests are in the area of Medicinal & Natural Product Chemistry; Quality Analysis of Drugs, Drug related and Herbal Products.
Dr Alaribe, heads a Molecular Networking (MN) research group which uses computational, Global Natural Product Social (GNPS) Networking and Molecular smart tools to explore existing and new compounds in green and inexhaustible West – African flora and other Natural/herbal Products as well as molecular docking tools with specific targets for selected infectious diseases (Malaria) and Modulatory Pathways in cancer cells.
She is also a Co- Principal Investigator on studies involving development of smart tools for standardization of Herbal Products in Nigeria and Africa.
Dr Alaribe, a certified Public Analyst with specialty in drugs and drug related products has collaborated and is still collaborating with different teams on some funded researches including; Tertiary Education Trust Fund and World Bank Grant for African Centre for Excellence, Drug Research, Herbal Medicine Development and Regulatory Science (ACEDHARS).
She is also a Co- Principal Investigator in studies involving the development of smart tools for the standardisation of Herbal Products in Nigeria and Africa.
Dr Alaribe, is a recipient of several awards including; Cranfield, Female Professor Leadership Programme Award, Women For Africa Foundation, United Kingdom, 2023; Science by Women, Mujeres Por Africa Foundation Fellowship, 2022; Royal Society of Chemistry Research Grant (RSC), 2020 TETFUND, 2020; African Science Literacy Network (ASLN) Fellow Award, 2019, Britain Biochemical Society, UK Travel Award, 2nd Best Faculty of Pharmacy Researcher Award and Best Research presentation, Drug Discovery for Africa awarded by Volkswagenstiftung, Germany, September, 2022.
She is also an active member in academic organisations which include American Society of Pharmacognosy, United States of America; Royal Society of Chemistry, United Kingdom. Biochemical Society, United Kingdom; Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS); Institute of Public Analyst of Nigeria (IPAN); International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID); Societa Italo-Latin American of Ethnomedicine (SILAE), Africa Representative; and active committee in Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Lagos Chapter.
Dr Alaribe, is a Post-Doc Research Fellow at Instituto de Investigacion Sanitaria (INCLIVA), Biomedical Research Institute, Instituto de Investigacion Sanitaria (INCLIVA),Valencia, Spain. She has 5 PhD students as supervisor and co-supervisor, has successfully supervised over thirty (30) MSc and undergraduate students, and is also a reviewer of manuscripts to several journal bodies such as Journal of Ethnopharmacology, Elsevier, Journal of Medicinal Plants for Economic Development - JOMPED, AOSIS ; Journal of Ethnopharmacology.
In Academic Management, Dr Alaribe has served Two Term in the Board of School of Post Graduate Studies, University of Lagos and currently has over 30 publications in peer –reviewed International and National journals as well as conference proceedings.
