Dr Isaac Akinwumi is an Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria. He previously served as the Director of the International Office and Linkages, Coordinator of Research at the Covenant University Centre for Research, Innovation and Discovery (CUCRID), College of Engineering Postgraduate Coordinator, Civil Engineering Department Postgraduate Coordinator and Civil Engineering Department Examinations Officer at Covenant University. He received his BEng degree in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria in the First Class Category and his MEng and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering from Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria. Dr Akinwumi is a Commonwealth Scholar. His collaborative research works attracted research and seed grants from the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK, Innovate UK and the British Council. Dr Akinwumi was the pioneer Technical Chair of the International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructural Development (ICSID). His Research works/interests are in Geotechnical Engineering (soil improvement, landfill lining, and groundwater protection), Environmental Engineering (water, sanitation and hygiene; waste management; marine plastic pollution; and pollution prevention) and sustainable construction materials. He is an Author/Co-Author of over 70 Peer-Reviewed Scientific Publications. Dr Akinwumi is an Affiliate of the African Academy of Sciences (2020-2024), was the Financial Secretary (2019-2021) and now a Fellow of the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA), a Corporate Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (2011-present), a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) (2013-present), Nigerian Institution of Geotechnical Engineers (NIGE), International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) and a Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) (2012-present). He was one of the Facilitators and Judges at the 2022 UNLEASH Innovation Lab in Mysore, India and 2023 UNLEASH Innovation Lab in Kigali, Rwanda, an innovation lab that annually brings together 1000 talents from over 100 countries to find solutions to the pressing global challenges.
