Prof Aikpokpodion has a strong background in Agriculture, specialized in Plant Breeding, Molecular Genetics, and Genetic Resources Management. During the last 30 years, he has worked at both the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria , and now at the University of Calabar. He has eight cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) hybrids (CRINTc 1-8) which, he developed and officially registered and released to his credit. He also unraveled the extent of genetic diversity in cocoa collections at both field genebanks and farmer's field collections in Nigeria, West, and central Africa. He continues to work in cultivar development, genetic diversity, and biodiversity study while exploring tropical Africa's rich biodiversity for value and use in nutritional, industrial, medicinal, and food security.
