Brief Biography (English)

Adekemi Dahunsi is a researcher and lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, Landmark University, Nigeria, with a specialization in Food Microbiology and Biotechnology. Her research focuses on biodiversity, phylogenic taxonomy, and technological characterization of desirable microorganisms associated with the traditional African fermented foods and the development of starter culture for the optimized and controlled fermentation process. She is currently researching genotypic identification/characterization of predominant food-grade microorganisms (with a special interest in lactic acid bacteria (LAB)) isolated from Nigeria indigenous fermented foods using different modern molecular tools, also the technological, probiotic and bio preservatives potentials that these microorganisms can confer on humans are being investigated, and the development of novel fermented functional foods and bioingredients. She has published several research articles in peer-reviewed journals and won several fellowships and travel grants. She belongs to numerous professional bodies in Nigeria and diaspora: Professional Member, Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (MNFST); Member of the Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology (NISEB), the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP-SFA) and a full member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), an international forum created to unite eminent women scientists from the developing and developed world to strengthen their role in scientific development and leadership.
