Brief Biography (English)

Prof Funmi Abioye is an Associate Professor of Law in the Department of Jurisprudence at the University of South Africa (UNISA). She obtained her LLM (International Law) and LLD (International Law) degrees from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Her LLB degree was obtained from the University of Lagos, in her home country, Nigeria.  She has taught in different areas of public international law, private international law, comparative law, and social welfare law over the years. She is currently involved in the teaching of Private International Law and the Historical Foundations of South African Law at the University of South Africa.

Her research interests primarily include the research on issues surrounding the rule of law in Africa, matters related to the African Union, good governance, legitimacy if legal systems, and accountability of governments. She has published extensively in these fields.

She is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Comparative and International Law Journal of Southern Africa (CILSA), an IBSS accredited journal.
