Prof Amare Abebe completed his BSc in Physics and Mathematics (2006) at Addis Ababa University, in Ethiopia. He completed his MSc in Cosmology (2009) at the University of Cape Town, in South Africa, followed by his PhD in Cosmology (2013) at the same university. Prof Abebe then joined the Physics Department of the North-West University (South Africa) as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 2014-2015. During this period, he also taught part-time at the University of Cape Town (Mathematics and Applied Mathematics) and the North-West University (Physics). Since 2014, he has been appointed as an Adjunct Member of the research and teaching staff at the Entoto Observatory and Research Center (Ethiopia). Here he teaches advanced courses in general relativity, cosmology, and astrophysics for Masters and PhD students, as well as supervising PhD students. From mid-2015 until the end of 2018, he was a Senior Lecturer of Physics at North-West University, Associate Professor during 2019-2021, and is currently a Professor of Physics at the same institution. Prof Abebe is actively involved in the Teaching, Supervision, and Research of the Physics Department and the Centre for Space Research (CSR) of NWU. He is working towards attracting postdoctoral fellows and postgraduate students (local, African, and international) to do research in modified theories of gravitation and theoretical cosmology at the center. Prof Abebe is an NRF Y-rated researcher, a member of the South African Institute of Physics (SAIP), the South African Mathematical Society (SAMS), the African Astronomical Society (AfAS), and the International Astronomical Union (IAU), an Associate at the National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences (NITheCS), and a Junior Focus Area (Mathematical Physics) Coordinator for the Centre of Excellence in Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (CoE-MaSS).
