Brief Biography (English)
Dr Andrew Abba is a Lecturer at the Department of English and Literary Studies, Federal University, Lokoja, Nigeria. He was the former Head of the Department of English at Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, Delta state, Nigeria. After obtaining his BA degree in English and Literary Studies at Imo State University, Nigeria, in 2000, Dr Abba acquired an MA (2006) and a PhD (2014) in the same discipline both at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. As a Young Scholar with a truly impressive Research profile, Dr Abba has Published a considerable number of very well researched articles in reputable journals such as The Journal of Commonwealth Literature, Journal of Language, Literature and Culture, and Matatu. He is also the Author of the novel, The Ugly Queen (2001), the plays - Lunatic on the Throne (2003) and The Blood Price (2018). He won a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship which he completed at the Institute of Asian and African Studies, Humboldt University, in Germany in 2018. Dr Abba's Article deriving from this research stay is forthcoming in Research in African Literatures vol. 51.4. His edited volume titled Critical Engagements on African Literature has just been Published by the Cambridge Scholars Publishing, Newcastle upon Tyme, UK. He recently Won both the prestigious Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Prize for Literary Criticism 2019 and the Association of Nigeria Authors’ Prize for Literary Criticism 2019. His Research areas span comparative literature, postcolonial Anglophone literature, African cultural aesthetics and communication, War and terror discourse, ecopoetics as well as women studies.
