Call for nominees: Honouring a Legacy of Science, Community, and Impact
Do you know a trailblazer? Nominate remarkable leaders and scientists in the Western Indian Ocean who have worked tirelessly to establish grassroot impact in marine science, education, community involvement, innovations, and capacity-development in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region. Today, we proudly stand on their shoulders, honouring their legacy, vision and commitment for the future
WIOMSA will honour these individuals at the upcoming 13th Scientific Symposium and beyond through a captivating “Legacy Feature,” highlighting their visionary spirit. This feature will showcase a diverse array of individuals, including posthumous recognitions for those who have made notable contributions.
Nomination Criteria
1. Significant contributions are defined as impactful efforts in marine science, community engagement, or education within their field. Examples include leaders who have advanced marine conservation, policy development, sustainable resource use practices, innovation, community outreach, and education.
2. Nominees can come from diverse backgrounds (e.g., scientist, citizen scientist, community leader, ship/boat captain, government/non-governmental organization worker, etc.).
3. Nominees do not necessarily have to be WIOMSA members.
